Our government has failed to protect us. The social contract is broken. We refuse to stay silent. We refuse to cooperate. We refuse to obey. We are willing and ready to face the consequences of our actions.

Come to this session to find out about how you can join Extinction Rebellion in using non-violent, disruptive civil disobedience to force the climate crisis to the top of the agenda when Parliament sits this August.

This meeting will include presentations, testimonials, group discussions, question time and concrete steps into action.

Federal Court Justice Mordecai Bromberg recently ruled that the Australian Government owes a duty of care to young Australians, to protect them from the effects of the climate crisis. The Morrison government is appealing this decision, showing us all once again that they take no responsibility for their murderous, planet-destroying support for fossil fuel corporations and climate deniers.

There is no time left. As Canada records temperatures approaching 50°C, smashing temperature records and causing over 100 deaths in 4 days – and as extreme weather events become more and more commonplace around the world – it’s clear that our ecological systems are in freefall. And what’s more, it’s clear that our own government has no interest in saving us.

To force the change we need, we must engage in high-level civil disobedience. All other avenues of change have been exhausted, and the gargantuan proportions of this crisis of political inaction require an equally proportionate response. Resisting injustice and standing up for what is right is a visceral, beautiful experience and part of what it means to be human at this time.

This is a life or death moment for our nation, our global social system, and our species. Our government is refusing to exercise its duty of care to our children. Therefore, we must take on this duty for ourselves. We have a responsibility to the future – if we fail to act, we are condemning our children and their children to a life of famine, fear and bloodshed. If we continue to live our lives of comfort and privilege while our leaders destroy our planet, then we have abandoned our responsibility just as they have.

Our government has failed to protect us. The social contract is broken. We refuse to stay silent. We refuse to cooperate. We refuse to obey. We are willing and ready to face the consequences of our actions.

Join us.

We acknowledge all the traditional custodians of this land on which we rebel, who have been facing extinction and in rebellion since colonisation. Sovereignty was never ceded. We pay respects to Ngunnawal elders past, present and emerging.
