Join us for a conversation with Polly Cutmore, Gomeroi Elder, direct descendent of the Weraerai clan of the Gomeroi, and elected native title applicant for the Gomeroi Nation. This conversation will be hosted by Madi from the Extinction Rebellion Global Support Trainings and (Regen 101) Global Support Regenerative Cultures teams.

Polly will be discussing how Australia Day, January 26, marks the beginning of a history of massacres in New South Wales.

“Nearly two centuries after the genocidal campaign against the Gomeroi people in Northern New South Wales, there are plans to recognise an important massacre site at Waterloo Creek; however, some believe a small plaque will do little to heal a country wounded by a cruel colonial history.”

How local Indigenous groups will continue to defend the sacred Pilliga forest.

“This is just another example of attempted, devastating colonialism, only now, instead of hiding behind the fence, we’re at the table. We are coordinating. Gomeroi people are coming together; the whole Gomeroi Nation is talking about gas mining destruction, especially to the Great Artesian Basin.”

A personal account of her life.

“My name is Maria Cutmore, better known as Polly, and l am a direct descendent of the Weraerai clan of the Gomeroi. The Weraeria people were the victims of both the Waterloo Creek and the Myall Creek massacres. Therefore, I descend from a long line of warriors who fought against their lands’ dispossession and dislocation of their family, language, and culture. I am now a part of the fight against the contemporary invaders – SANTOS – who are, once again, raping and pillaging the lands of the Gomeroi.”

If you would like to support Polly – we are fundraising for Gomeroi. Say NO to Coal Seam Gas.
